Apapa Customs Sets New 24-Hour Revenue Record with ₦28.1bn Collection

…Fresh feat comes barely 3 days after historic ₦323bn monthly revenue record

By Silas Onuoha

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Apapa Area Command, has broken another revenue record, collecting a staggering ₦28.102 billion in a single day, barely 3 days after smashing its highest-ever monthly revenue record with ₦323 billion in July 2026.

The latest feat, recorded on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, represents the highest single-day revenue collection in the history of the Command and eclipses its previous record of ₦20.1 billion, achieved in September 2025, shortly after the assumption of office of the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba.

The remarkable performance further cements Apapa Customs’ position as a major revenue powerhouse of the Nigeria Customs Service and highlights the growing impact of reforms, improved compliance, enhanced trade facilitation, intelligence-driven operations and increased efficiency in Customs processes.

Speaking on the development, Comptroller Oshoba said the record was more than a collection figure, stressing that every naira generated by the Service contributes to the government’s ability to fund critical areas of national development.

According to him, Customs revenue forms part of government resources deployed to support infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and other public services that directly affect the wellbeing of Nigerians.

He dedicated the latest milestone to the government and people of Nigeria, while commending the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, and the management team for their continued support for modernisation, automation, trade facilitation and institutional reforms.

Oshoba also acknowledged the contributions of compliant importers, exporters, licensed Customs agents, other stakeholders and patriotic Nigerians whose cooperation and actionable intelligence have continued to support the Command’s operations.

He urged stakeholders to sustain their commitment to legitimate trade and compliance, noting that a stronger revenue base gives government greater capacity to meet its development obligations while creating a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.

The CAC, however, cautioned officers and men of the Command against complacency, describing the latest record as a greater responsibility to deliver more.

He directed personnel to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, transparency and efficiency, while ensuring that legitimate businesses are not unnecessarily delayed or frustrated by Customs procedures.

Oshoba stressed that revenue generation must go hand in hand with trade facilitation and excellent service delivery, directing officers to resolve legitimate disputes promptly and maintain respectful and professional relationships with stakeholders.

The ₦28.1 billion single-day collection, coming on the heels of the Command’s historic ₦323 billion July revenue, marks another extraordinary chapter in the transformation of Apapa Customs.

With two major revenue records shattered within days, the Command has demonstrated that sustained reforms, compliance, technology, professionalism and stakeholder collaboration can translate into stronger government revenue and greater economic value.

For Comptroller Oshoba and his team, however, the message is very clear: the records are not the destination, but a call to raise the bar even higher. As Apapa remains a critical gateway to Nigeria’s economy, the Command is expected to sustain the momentum while ensuring that every legitimate transaction, every compliant trader and every naira collected contributes to a stronger economy and a better future for Nigerians.
