Agege Stadium and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, will host the 2026 NUJ Media Games from October 5 to 9, 2026.
Chairman of the 2026 NUJ Media Games Sports Committee, Mr. Ayo Ojedokun, disclosed this at a press conference held at the NUJ Secretariat, Ikeja.
Ojedokun said the annual sporting event was designed to provide journalists with an opportunity to unwind from the pressures of newsroom activities, maintain physical fitness and promote healthy living and recreation among media practitioners.
According to him, the 2026 edition will feature five-a-side football for both male and female journalists, a 100-metre race and a range of indoor events, including Chess, Draughts, Ayo, Scrabble and Table Tennis.
He also called on corporate organisations to take advantage of the Games to promote their products and services, urging more sponsors to support the event and contribute to its success.
The press conference also featured the unveiling of the official logo of the 2026 NUJ Media Games, as well as the draw for the football competition.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the NUJ Lagos Council, Mr. Adeleye Ajayi, said the Media Games had come to stay, adding that the Council was excited about hosting the competition.
Ajayi commended the sponsors for supporting the initiative and specifically appreciated Coca-Cola, Nestlé Foods, SFAX Group, Agege Local Government and Amuwo-Odofin Local Government for identifying with the Council and contributing to the physical and mental well-being of journalists.
He said the Games would further promote camaraderie, healthy competition and mental alertness among media professionals.
The event also featured a minute of silence in honour of the former Secretary of the NUJ Lagos Council, Mr. Alfred Odifa, who passed away on Thursday morning.
The 2026 NUJ Media Games Committee, chaired by Ojedokun, expressed optimism that the competition would provide an avenue for journalists across the state to interact, compete and strengthen professional bonds.
