The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has invited Mr. Sunday Michael Ogwu to appear at its headquarters and formally submit his statement and relevant evidence concerning allegations that he was assaulted by police officers attached to Lugbe Police Station.

The invitation followed the circulation of videos on social media in which Ogwu alleged that he was assaulted by police officers in Lugbe on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Responding to the allegations, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, ordered a full and impartial investigation into the incident to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.

The Commissioner further directed that any police officer found culpable of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the Command, its Public Relations Officer has made several attempts since August 19 to invite Ogwu to the Command Headquarters to provide an official statement and submit evidence that could assist investigators in establishing the facts of the case.

The Command, however, said Ogwu had yet to honour the invitations, while continuing to circulate videos of the alleged incident on social media.

The police urged the complainant to cooperate with the investigation, stressing that his statement and supporting evidence would be important to ensuring a fair and comprehensive determination of the matter.

The FCT Police Command has therefore formally invited Ogwu to appear at its headquarters on Friday, August 21, 2026, by 12:00 noon, to make his statement and present all relevant evidence in support of his allegations.

The Command assured the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, transparently and without bias, adding that any officer found to have acted unprofessionally or unlawfully would be held accountable in accordance with the law.

It reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, respect for citizens’ rights and adherence to the rule of law in the discharge of its responsibilities.

The statement was signed by SP Josephine Adeh, anipr, mipra, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Police Command, Abuja.
